Construction Begins on New Transitional House

Construction has begun on a new 30-bed facility in Golden Valley next door to our current facility that it will replace.

Although delayed by an unusually rainy fall, excavation has begun and our General Contractor, Vanman Architects and Builders hopes to pour footings and begin constructing walls within a few weeks.

The total project, including construction, commercial kitchen and furnishings for additional rooms, and is projected to cost $2.8 million. Already $2.6 million has been secured for this project with an additional $200,000 left to raise before it opens in Spring 2020.

Damascus Way currently has room for 18 residents at the facility that is being replaced. Together with two other transitional sites in Rochester, we will have a total capacity to serve 84 men participating in a variety of reentry programs.

Building a new and larger facility has been a vision of Damascus Way leadership for more than a decade. The vision finally became reality in January 2019 after several years of working with adjoining property owners to swap land parcels and sell them our existing facility to also accommodate their own expansion of manufacturing business.

Our reentry program will continue to operate in our 18-bed facility until construction of the new building is complete.
