Damascus Way is delighted to share some exciting news from the conclusion of 2023. In late 2022, Damascus submitted a request for support to Mayo Clinic’s Community Contributions Program, which supports community efforts to advance shared values such as community health improvement, collaboration and stewardship. To our great joy, we were awarded a generous grant by the Mayo Clinic to support the transitional needs of adult men exiting incarceration and seeking recovery from substances in Olmsted County. This gift was also intended to help the Rochester area community address financial stress and mental health.
The entire Damascus Way organization would like to extend our gratitude to Mayo Clinic for their desire to support organizations that do valuable and necessary work in the Rochester area community. We are particularly thankful for the acquisition of this new grant request as part of the Mayo Clinic’s Community Contributions program. It is profoundly encouraging to be recognized for the essential services we provide and thus we receive this financial support with a renewed commitment to steward our responsibilities and those we serve to the greatest of our abilities!
We recognize that this contribution is the beginning of what we hope is a key partnership. Our desire is to put these contributions to use in service areas that will address the disproportionate ills and disparities that have resulted from the failures of our justice system. We continue to focus our efforts on addressing substance use with our individuals and within our communities. This funding will continue to allow us to provide evidenced-based programming at our Rochester sites.
In 2022, our Rochester programs saw a combined total of 54 successful individual completions! We are convinced that opportunities such as this will be critical to a long-term and wholistic vision for recovery and reentry.
Thank you once again to Mayo Clinic for their generosity!
